Effective July 1, 2026, the Iowa Dept of Health & Human services is increasing the cost for certified copies of vital records. The fee for a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate will be $20. The fee for birth and marriage registrations will be $40.

Recorder
The Recorder’s Office is also responsible for the County’s vital records i.e. issuing Marriage Licenses as well as Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates.
This office also serves as a licensing agent for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and issues fishing and hunting licenses as well as registering and titling boats, off road vehicles and snowmobiles.
The Monona County Recorder's Office DOES NOT:
